(RTTNews) - German business sentiment strengthened to a six-month high at the end of the year, survey data from the ifo institute showed on Wednesday. The business climate index rose to 96.3 in Ifo said its business confidence index — based on a survey of 9,000 firms — fell to 94.3 points this month from 95.7 points in July.

“The German economy starts the year cautiously,” said the president of the Ifo Institute, Clemens Fuest. “The manufacturing sector gives signs of recovery and business confidence has improved markedly,” especially in the valuation of the current situation, which had not risen with such force since February 2017, adds the Ifo.
